Today, the Faroese Ministry of Fisheries has entered into a fisheries agreement for 2024, whereby Russia will primarily have access to fish for pelagic fish in Faroese waters and the Faroe Islands will have access to the Russian part of the Barents Sea, where the Faroese trawlers primarily fish for cod and haddock.
The Faroe Islands and Russia have a long-term fishing cooperation that extends over 50 years.
The Faroe Islands have permission to fish cod 9,766 tonnes and haddock 1,047 tonnes, shrimp 4,000 tonnes and flatfish “plaice” etc. 900 tonnes of flatfish.
The total Russian quotas in the Faroe Sea area is 93,776 tons. Here we are talking about herring, mackerel and blue whiting. Parts of the Russian fish are exported to Africa.
